Online learning seems to have taken centre stage. It is helpful to know how to manage online classes. For some, this is the best learning experience as they do not have to travel to attend class. For others, is is a stressful one because the workload seems unmanageable. Despite the challenges, there are many ways of making a success of online learning. Online learning requires a lot of discipline, dedication and patience. In this post, I will share some of the Do's and Don'ts of online learning which helped me in my studies.

Do's

  • Make sure you are well rested before class. Prepare for your lessons in advance.
  • Get all your equipment ready for class including all the necessary books you may need. Test if your equipment is working so you do not always have to get up in class.
  • Find a quiet place and set up your equipment.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Plan to be in class on time.
  • Focus! Be attentive and take notes if possible.
  • Wait for your turn to speak. Respect others in your class.
  • Mute your speaker when someone is speaking and unmute yourself if you have to speak.
  • Cultivate healthy habits . Eat healthy, exercise, stay hydrated and get enough rest.

Don'ts

  • Never be late for class.
  • Do not interrupt others while they are talking.
  • Never leave the class without permission.
  • Never allow your mind drift away during a long class.
  • Do not eat in class.
  • Do not play music in the background. Avoid sitting in a noisy area.
  • Resist the temptation to play games or visiting social media platforms during class.
  • Do not keep starring at the screen during breaks and when the class is over. Take a break from the screen and do something else.

Online learning is rewarding. Connecting with other students outside the online class can also help one get the most of this experience.

All the best as you embark on this journey!
